Dakota Alert VS-250 Vehicle Sensor KitThe Dakota Alert Vehicle Sensor Kit is used primarily as a driveway alarm to detect vehicles. It consists of a control box, a metal detecting probe, and a 250-foot direct burial cable. The hard-wired vehicle sensor informs you any time a car enters or leaves your driveway. The probe detects moving vehicles within the 10 to the 12-feet radius of the sensor. Unlike other metal detectors, the VS-250 detects moving large metals objects. This means Dakota Alert will never send a false about a parked car or falling leaves. Because the VS-250 detects large metals, a small object such as a bike will only be detected from a few feet.The probe should be buried under or parallel to the driveway; then the direct burial wire runs back to the control box located in your garage or house. It would be best if you placed the probe close to the driveway but at least 80-feet away from the main roads to avoid detecting signals from high-speed traffic. The wire and probe can be buried in turn with a shovel or lawn edger. Whenever the probe detects a car passing by, it will send a signal through the cable to the control box. Once the control box receives this signal, it will sound a loud whistle.Meanwhile, the control box can be plugged into a 110V outlet and has a set of contacts to connect the two direct burial cables and a set of 12V DC contacts. Inside the control box, is a circuit board for the sensor. You can increase the sensor's sensitivity by turning the knob from 12 o'clock to 5 o'clock. You expand the Dakota Alert Vehicle Sensor and run up to three probes with one control box.
